E-standards supports bright IDEAs

E-standards for Training is supporting the development of strong national e-learning infrastructure by sponsoring the IDEA10 conference, taking place in Melbourne on 10-12 March.
IDEA10 will explore current and emerging technologies that support learning, and address opportunities and challenges for developing the infrastructure necessary to support digital education.
E-standards for Training Activity Manager, Kristena Gladman, said that the topics under discussion are of significant interest to the vocational education and training (VET) system, as nationally agreed interoperability and technical standards make e-learning content more accessible, reliable, affordable and reusable.
“E-standards for Training is focused on developing and maintaining national e-standards, conducting research into new technology areas, and providing guidance materials and tools to support the effective use of emerging technologies,” Kristena said.
“IDEA10 will further these objectives by sharing intelligence on emerging technologies and infrastructure supporting education, and fostering alliances and communities of practice around technologies used by the Australian education community.”
Kristena will present a briefing on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines v2.0 (WCAG 2.0) as part of of IDEA10’s all day IDEALab Workshop on Wednesday 10 March. IDEALab will focus on technical standards and innovation supporting interoperability of education systems and is aimed at those developing learning technologies for education.
Kristena’s session will consider the implications of WCAG 2.0 for the education sector in the context of current and forthcoming Australian policy. An introduction to WCAG 2.0 will outline the requirements for transitioning from WCAG 1.0 to 2.0 and the work that has been undertaken in the school and VET sectors to date, including E-standards for Training’s recently released WCAG 2.0 Evaluation for the VET sector report.
IDEA10 will also feature:
Technology in Education Open Forum – focus on technologies that support learning, and include international speakers and panel sessions featuring teachnologists and teachers.
IMS GLC Learning Impact Awards Australian Regional Finals – recognise outstanding applications of technology that address the most significant challenges facing education.
