With e-learning gaining momentum in the Asian business community as a viable training option, the Asia E-learning Conference 2009 will feature worldwide examples of how e-learning is being used as a valuable business tool.

The national training system's e-learning strategy, the Australian Flexible Learning Framework (Framework), has been acknowledged as a leader in e-learning and invited to present at the conference. The presentation will highlight how Australia has implemented strategies to encourage the uptake of e-learning in vocational education and training (VET).

To be held on 13-14 July in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the conference theme of 'Sharing the e-learning experience' will provide CEOs, COOs (Chief Operating Officers), managing directors, heads of department and human resource staff with the opportunity to benchmark their organisation's e-learning initiatives against industry peers.

In her presentation, 'Overcoming recession by engaging e-learning in a challenging environment', the Framework's Benchmarking and Research Business Manager, Annie Fergusson, will highlight key findings from the Framework's annual E-learning Benchmarking Survey to show how Australia has implemented strategies to encourage the uptake of e-learning.

The presentation will draw on the results of two other key pieces of research conducted by the Framework to show:

  • how e-learning is perceived and used by small business in Australia
  • the enablers and barriers associated with the uptake of e-learning in small business, and the resulting opportunities
  • how technology and innovative practices are embedded in organisations
  • how e-learning can work in traditional trades
  • models for embedding e-learning in VET.

According to corporate training and development provider and conference organiser, Comfori, innovation in training and e-learning becomes even more crucial in a challenging economic environment as organisations seek to boost performance, increase retention and retain a competitive edge by the most efficient means possible.

The conference will assist organisations to better understand the role of e-learning as an alternative training option by facilitating the sharing of experiences and best practice among leading industry players.
