Framework projects dominate technology award finals
19/03/2010
Two projects which received seed funding and support through the Australian Flexible Learning Framework’s (Framework) emerging technology trials have been selected as Australian finalists in the 2010 IMS GLC Learning Impact Awards.
At the awards ceremony, held at the IDEA10 conference in Melbourne, the QTImPlayer and Mobilae projects were two of the three finalists commended for their outstanding application of technology that addresses the most significant challenges facing education.
As Australian finalists, they will receive support to now attend and compete at the international awards in Long Beach, California from 17-20 May 2010.
Both projects investigated how mobile technologies can facilitate and enhance hands-on learning outside traditional classroom environments, tapping in to the immense potential of e-learning to deliver flexible, just-in-time learning – anywhere and anytime.
- QTImPlayer (Tasmanian Polytechnic) – The QTImPlayer allows teachers and trainers to remotely assess learners on-the-job, using evidence gathered electronically. At the 2009 international awards, the QTImPlayer was awarded a Leadership Award, with judges commending the tool for leading the way in the relatively new question and test interoperability (QTI) standards field.
- Mobilae (Western Sydney Institute of TAFE) – The Mobilae project created a customised system that integrates 2D-barcodes, wireless networking and an open-source web server/application framework to provide a cost effective and simple option for authoring, hosting and accessing content for mobile devices.
Applications for the 2010 emerging technology trials are NOW OPEN (closing 31 March).
