E-learning uses electronic media to deliver flexible vocational education and training. It is naturally suited to distance learning and flexible learning, but is also used in face-to-face teaching (blended learning).

E-learning strategies include Web 2.0 or social networking technologies. Past e-learning systems have been used to deliver learning content and assessments to the student. These were accessed and completed by the student and evaluated by the teacher.   Using Web 2.0 technologies, the new e-learning places increased emphasis on social learning and use of social software such as blogs, wikis, podcasts and virtual worlds.
