Virtual Worlds - Real Learning!

About the project

Imagine being able to engage and enrich education and training programs by putting the learner right in the midst of their learning environment.

Through the use of technology, it is now possible to create virtual worlds which can replicate anything from a mechanic's garage to the inside of a mine. Taking the next step from games based role-play learning, virtual worlds allow learners to be immersed in the learning situation. They are able to experiment and explore activities, interact with others and then review what they have been doing.

Virtual worlds not only cater for individual training needs but also provide practitioners with the opportunity to facilitate learning in real-life situations, where students can be creative and build their skills and knowledge in a safe virtual environment. With a virtual world you are not restricted by where, when and at what pace you deliver education and training.

This project will explore the use of virtual worlds as an educational tool. The project aims to develop and test a pedagogically sound model to assist teachers and trainers in using virtual worlds in the delivery of vocational and technical education (VET) programs.

Who is it for?
