The Knowledge Sharing Services Project delivers widespread, efficient and timely access to knowledge and resources that support delivery of quality e-learning to VET clients by Australian training providers. The project promotes and makes accessible the extensive knowledge base on VET e-learning practices, research and policy development that has been developed since the Framework's inception.

In 2007, the project will, in particular, develop and implement a knowledge strategy which addresses the specific needs of 2007 as the final year of the current Framework. The Knowledge Sharing Services project will also continue to support the mandating of standards for capturing and transferring knowledge across different contexts, including metadata and standards.

In 2007, the Knowledge Sharing Services Project will provide:

  • website services for the Framework website at flexiblelearning.net.au
    • updates to content
    • improvements to technical infrastructure and processes to support content management by content owners through browser-based editing tools
    • technical maintenance, hosting and scheduled enhancements to the site
    • support for further realisation of the benefits of collaborative tools (eg forums, blogs, wikis, document sharing)
  • services for EdNA VET
    • client liaison, technical support, content management
    • sourcing and adding of items, news and events
    • production and circulation of VET and ACE newsletters
  • services to investigate emerging knowledge sharing technology and its potential impact on Framework activities
  • knowledge management and distribution services
    • as part of a Framework knowledge strategy, facilitate the identification, extraction, categorisation and distribution of knowledge created so that tacit knowledge made explicit through Framework activities is readily available to others.

The provision of current generation web-based tools and support in the use and application of these tools will build on and consolidate work over previous years and establish a more sustainable environment for distributed collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The project will also keep abreast of other national VET information and knowledge sharing services as they are developed.

Objectives

  • to enable VET practitioners and other users to support e-learning delivery through access to relevant e-learning information as required or on demand
  • to update content and support content owners managing content
  • to ensure current generation infrastructure and tools provide flexibility, easy updating, customisation, interoperability and content management
  • to provide solutions for collaboration, informal communication and social interaction at different levels.

Outputs

  • The flexiblelearning.net.au web site and EdNA VET and ACE are up-to-date and relevant.
  • A range of interoperable services to ensure information and knowledge is available as required.
  • Web-based collaboration and knowledge sharing tools are available for use by VET practitioners and Framework personnel.

Project performance indicators

  • level of use of flexiblelearning.net.au
  • level of stakeholder use of knowledge sharing services and tools
  • level of EdNA VET and ACE and resource sharing achieved through the national network
  • attitudes of VET leaders and managers to e-learning, as measured through sector participation and demonstration of best practice.
