E-assessment is a hot issue in vocational education and training (VET), with increasing numbers of practitioners and auditors looking for ways to harness its benefits while ensuring that quality assessment practices are maintained.

According to the 2009 national E-learning Benchmarking Survey, 62% of teachers and 46% of registered training organisations (RTOs) are now using online assessment activities. However some practitioners are still finding their feet with e-assessment, as they attempt to fit traditional assessment methods into a new training agenda which requires more on-the-job and flexible training.
