Description
The Horticulture Toolbox contains teaching and learning resources for the online delivery of units of competency from the Horticulture Training Package at AQF Level I or II. This Toolbox includes the units of competency that provide the foundation skills for the Horticultural Industry. It is anticipated that students using these resources will be undertaking a registered Horticulture Traineeship or Apprenticeship or enrolled as a part-time or full-time student with access to a workplace in the Horticultural Industry or a simulated workplace environment provided by the Registered Training Organisation.
The Horticulture Toolbox is set in a simulated workplace where the learners are given activities and tasks, and the resources they need to complete those tasks. The setting includes a garden area, a nursery, a pergola, machinery shed and a lunchroom. Learners have the ability to explore the environment in much the same way as they could if they were present in a real setting. Learners are given jobs to complete, and in order to achieve the competency, they can select the tools they need to complete the task, go to the resource centre to access journals and other documents, and they can ‘talk’ to experts in the homestead. The Toolbox integrates online learning with workplace activities: activities are completed by the student in the workplace under the guidance of the workplace supervisor.
